The packaging label for residual waste

Size

The recommended minimum size of the pictogram on the packaging is 10 mm. On particularly small packaging, the height of the pictogram may exceptionally be reduced (minimum 6 mm).

Use of color

The pictogram is preferably printed in black, but white can be used, if this provides better contrast.

  • Pantone (print) Black 6 C
  • CMYK (print) 20/20/20/20100
  • RGB (web) 20/20/20
  • RAL (foil / sign) 9005 - Jet Black

Compostable plastic

Compostable plastic packaging cannot be recycled with other plastic. Neither can it be sorted as food waste / biowaste, because the treatment of this varies across the country and most Norwegian municipalities do not want biodegradable bioplastics.

The packaging is marked with residual waste pictogram and text:
Sorted as residual waste

Combination foils

All packaging should be optimized for recycling using as much mono material as possible. Clear limit values for when a packaging can be labeled as plastic and when it should go in residual waste are included in the further development of the packaging calculator and we ask members to use their own, good judgment and the following guidelines:

Bags and films composed of different materials (plastic / paper or plastic / aluminum / metallized plastic) where plastic is the dominant material is very difficult to recycle with current technology. In order to be marked with a plastic pictogram, the aluminum / metallised plastic barrier must be below 5 µm, and not on the outside of the packaging.

For all other combination foils where plastic is the main material:
The packaging is marked with residual waste pictogram and text:
Sorted as residual waste

For all packaging where corrugated cardboard and packaging paper from sulphate pulp is the main material:

Packaging of corrugated cardboard and packaging paper from sulphate pulp supplied with other materials (plastic, aluminum, etc.) regardless of quantity or thickness, where this is not intuitively separated by sorting, is undesirable in the municipalities' paper flow.

This corrugated cardboard and paper packaging is marked with residual waste pictogram and text:
Sorted as residual waste
